July 8-13.02
We are off to Paradise Island, Bahamas to 'swim with the dolphins'. This is what Jonathan & Tali chose as their Bnei Mitzvah celebration: Spend quality and fun time with their dad and Alice in -what they tell me is an unforgettable setting- the Royal Towers of Atlantis. You see, they had a choice between 5 hours of partying in a big room filled with their friends (something they have been doing almost every other week since the Bar/Bat Mitzvah cycle started) or spend 5 days each, one with dad and one with mom, at a vacation destination of their choice.

June 16.02 :: Father’s Day Picnic at the Van Werts
This is the kind of ‘rituals’ families everywhere should develop more of. Jodie and Chet, thank you for making us part of it the second year in a row. As always it was a pleasure to be in the company of you and your children and everyone else that was there. Pictures that Chet took that day can be seen at his msnPhotos site. p.s. the Einhorn family tree will soon be online so that the other trees of our ‘forest’ can visualize the members of Alice’s extended family in their proper branches…

May 26.02
Sheila and Niso are getting married today at Temple Neve Shalom in Istanbul. Sorry we cannot be part of your simcha Niso, but our thoughts and best wishes are going out to you. Mazal Tov!

May 15-19.02 :: A Week in BODRUM peninsula, Turkey.
Five terrific days at the Bodrum peninsula with my dearest, Alice, sister Sara, and bro-in-law Selim. I recommend it to everyone to make an effort to get to that part of the world at least once and hire a sailboat for at least a day and visit the little bays along the coastline. Gol Turk Buku; Gumbet; Akyarlar; Turgut Reis; Yalikavak; Gumusluk ...'nough said.

Today is the day that Lina and Ari are tying the knot! …and what a day it has been! Visit their site at http://arivelina.com and wish them a happy life together. Pictures from the big day can be seen at our site as well as theirs.

March 28.02 :: Passover -Second Seder at Paul & Gloria's
Another beautiful afternoon in the company of Al's family. Always a pleasure to listen to the dialogs, taste the holiday dishes and watch the kids interact with wit and intelligence. They always say that the Jews have too many holidays -I say we don't have enough. If we did we'd be seeing each other more often. Gloria, thanks for having us. Jonathan & Tali enjoyed the time spent, and loved meeting again this side of the family.

March 10.02 :: Lina & Ari's Civil Ceremony and Cocktail Party
One of my most fav and fab niece's 'Nikah' is taking place today. The tragedy of September 11th reminded us all -that life is ephemeral (see: the rose of the little prince), and that time spent with family and friends is the ultimate high. So there was no way we were going to miss the opportunity to be among family! We had a ball to be part of all the excitement. The highlight of the event, for Al and I, was when Ari pulled the mike back from the Judge's hand and repeated in English: 'I do!" "for the benefit of his guests from the U.S.", as he put it. It meant a lot to Alice. Ari, you are the MAN! …and Lina, thank you for giving me the honor of being your 'witness' at the table.

December .01 :: Weekend in Palm Beach, FL (Einhorn Hotel)
November .01 ::
Weekend in Las Vegas, NV (Paris Hotel)
October .01 :: Weekend in Dallas, TX (Crescent Court Hotel)
The horror of 9-11 has us still wired. As if to tell the terrorists that we are not taken aback from their actions, we went away for a weekend every month since then for the next 3 months. First alone, to try a restaurant named 'Enigma' in Dallas. Next with Inez & Mayer, as their guest -thank you. And last, decided to pay a visit to Pat & Harvey, Al's parents and relax for a few days.

May 26.01 :: Dinner at the Dixlers
A very pleasant evening thanks to 4 very pleasurable hosts. The chef Scott and the sous-chef Debbie prepared and served 2 perfect-10 dishes. One, perfectly cooked mussels, with red sauce prepared by Scott from fresh herbs he grows in the back-yard, over a bed of Spaghetti. -Scott, you have to tell me the secret of keeping the mussels moist; mine comes out always all dried up!-, followed by a T-bone steak, competing with Peter Luger's portion sizes, coated to perfection again with a rub prepared from scratch from fresh herbs from the back yard, accompanied with fresh Spinach leaves and garlic/olive oil sauce. . . mmmm. . . divine. Alan, thanks for re-introducing me to Bourbon. The last time i tasted it it was in the eighties. I remember liking it than, and I like it now. Hillary, when you tell a story you have an energy that it is captivating. Keep that magic within you as you grow up. It is a precious gift. Thank you guys for a great evening of good food and great company. (sorry this story does not have pictures attached to it -you'll have to be nice to Scott to get to taste his craft)

February.24.01 :: Congrats on Your Bat-Mitzvah, Rachel!
On Feb.24th the family celebrated Rachel's bat-mitzvah with a beautiful ceremony in Temple Sholom, Plainfield, NJ. Rachel's presence was immpecable and most pleasurable. It was followed by a reception at the Grand Summit Hotel where everyone had a chance to catch up with each other. I got to meet again most of Alice's relatives, something we don't get the chance to do more often.
So Thank You -the Van Wert family: Jodie and Chet, Jonathan, David, and of course Rachel -for having us, and giving the family a reason to gather on this happy occasion.

January.1.01 :: The Benhaleguas visited NYcity at Xmas. . ehm, Hanuka :)
Sister Sara, Selim, Lina and Doris spent 2 weeks leading up to the end of the 2nd millennium here in NJ/NY area. Ari Dinar joined us as well. We went to FL for a few days, Checked out the stretch between South Beach and Palm Beach. It was a blast. One of the best Hanukka's in a long time! all together with Engin and mom Dora, my children and Alice's. The clincher was our ability to spend a few days together with Ines and Mayer, Ceni and Vera Caen. Thanks everyone for making it an end of millennium to remember!

December.21.00 :: Ines & Mayer Celebrated their Silver Anniversary
Ines and Mayer Caen celebrated their 25th year Anniversary in New York city, at the 'Dervish', in the company of their family and friends. Tebrikler!!
